This active excursion covers excellent distances every day. Rely on hiking for up to six hours! But not every day is on tour. The pace is sometimes a little challenging, especially on the second and third days of the Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu, for customers who choose to do the optional Huayna Picchu trek.

Participants must be in good physical condition to compete in the Short Inca Trail by Cusco Temple of the Moon 3 Day. Further training does recommend before departure. You will encounter uneven surfaces, stairs, steep steps, rocky and unpaved terrain, and marked slopes. If you climb the Inca Trail from Machu Picchu, you cannot turn back and must complete the trek until you reach the town of Aguas Calientes. When visiting Machu Picchu, remember that canes are not allowed; hiking poles are permitted on the Inca Trail as long as they have rubber tips. Also, selfie sticks are prohibited, and only folding umbrellas are allowed.

Cusco is 3,500 meters – 11,000 feet above sea level, which may be a consideration for those with heart problems or those affected by altitude. We recommend our explorers consult their doctor before signing up for this adventure. Final routes and activities might change due to weather conditions, etc. We recommend purchasing personal travel insurance to cover accidents or events.

Faqs Short Inca Trail by Cusco Temple of the Moon 3 Day

What is the possible discount for the Short Inca Trail?

To benefit from the student discount, it is essential to have an ISIC student card, the only card that accounts for the Inca Trail. Other student cards are not taken into account for the discount.

ISIC card holders must be between 17 and 26 at travel time.

Participants under 16 years of age must send a photocopy of their passport at the time of booking to benefit from a discount.

Your reservation for your stay will be effective only after receiving 100% of the balance.

The passport with which you make the reservation must be presented at the time of your entry into the trekking route. Otherwise, you may be denied access. For this reason, we recommend you send us a photocopy of the passports of each participant when you make your reservation.

I am independent. Can I make the Short Inca Trail alone, without an agency?

No. A rule dating from January 2001 now prohibits independent travelers on the Inca Trail to protect it. Therefore, the latter’s entrance must be acquired in advance by a tour operator authorized by the competent authorities. This same authority controls the correct application of current regulations by travel agencies. It is impossible to buy a ticket at the access point on the way.

When do I have to make a reservation?

Do I have to wait until I am in Cusco to make a reservation?

What are the places and availability on the Short Inca Trail?

By decree of the Peruvian government, the number of places is limited to 500 per day. These places are usually reserved several months in advance and often during the year (especially in July and August). Therefore, booking a minimum of 4 to 5 months in advance for the most requested months is necessary.

If our agency cannot buy the tickets, no other agency can get them for you. Agencies reserve no quotas.

Likewise, if the quota of places sold is reached, there is no need to wait for any withdrawal.

FAQ about Cusco Tour with Short Inca Trail

Tickets sold are nominative and cannot be put back on the market. That is why there are special sales conditions for this trekking.

So there are a lot of people? Do we walk alone?

You certainly won’t be alone… only 200-person can hike the Short Inca Trail, who start the trek at kilometer 104 for two days hiking.

I started too late; there were no more places. What do I have to do?

Don’t be scared; there are many other possibilities in Peru. The two main alternatives are the Lares trekking and the Salkantay trekking. Everyone is different; you will indeed find something that satisfies you.

Remember that only the Inca Trail allows you to reach Machu Picchu directly on foot through the Puerta del Sol. Of course, all other possibilities go through the Aguas Calientes town.

Why so many registration details? Why full payment?

We ask for a lot of details for your record. The regulatory authorities of the Short Inca Trail request all these details. The places are effectively nominative and cannot be modified. Therefore, it is essential to register with the same passport that you will be traveling with. Your registration, once validated, will not be adjustable.

Therefore, we impose a full payment because no one will be able to replace you, even if you do not participate in the trip.

Is the entrance to Machu Picchu included in the Short Inca Trail?

Of course, yes. The authorization to hike the Inca Trail includes access to Machu Picchu for one day. However, if you want to access Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain, you must buy an additional full ticket.
