Faqs Sacred Valley Tour from Urubamba
Where is the Sacred Valley?
The Sacred Valley follows the Urubamba River from the town of Pisac (about 30 km northeast of Cusco) and ends at the village of Ollantaytambo (60 km northwest of Cusco). Beyond that point, the cliffs bordering the river become closer while the Urubamba descends steeply to the Amazon basin.
When to go to the Sacred Valley?
The Sacred Valley receives visitors year-round, as the climate does not usually vary significantly. On average, daytime temperatures are 20 °C, although at night, they are generally colder, with an average drop to 5 °C.
However, special care should be taken when visiting during the rainy season (December to March); although the Valley looks beautiful with green fields, the rains are usually quite heavy and can frustrate several visit plans.
How to get around, and how to tour the Sacred Valley?
Once you know the places or sites that are part of the Sacred Valley, it is time to explain how you can visit them and how to move around them.
First, I would like to clarify that the ideal way to visit the Sacred Valley is to have time. We must remember that it is a large area with several sites to visit, and they deserve to see them with time to appreciate them better.
By this, I mean that a one-day tour of the Valley is too short, and you will not be able to see everything. It is best to visit in parts for several days (at least two).
Where to sleep to visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas?
Most people decide to sleep in Cusco to visit the Sacred Valley. Still, there are many options within the Sacred Valley of excellent quality, suitable for all budgets, and an excellent choice if you plan to visit it in parts over several days.
Sleeping inside the Valley is usually cheaper than in Cusco, plus the weather is much nicer, and the best thing is that you can move around in parts. Below, I recommend excellent options to sleep in the Sacred Valley and also in Cusco:
Is it necessary to have a tourist ticket to the Sacred Valley?
In Cusco, there is something called “Boleto Turístico de Cusco,” which is basically like a pass to visit some places in the city and other essential points of the Sacred Valley.
The most recommended ticket if you plan to make your route over several days and visit multiple places is the General or Integral Ticket, which lasts ten consecutive days from the date you purchase it. The price for foreign tourists is 130 soles and can only be paid in cash.
Where is the Sacred Valley of the Incas located?
The Sacred Valley of the Incas is located 15 km northeast of Cusco. A drive to one of the nearest towns will take around 40 minutes. From there, you can move to the other towns in the Valley.
How is the weather during the tour?
Most towns that make up the Sacred Valley of the Incas have a pleasant climate. The temperature varies from 4ºC. at 23ºC. From April to October, the dry season passes. From November to March, the rainy season prevails. Always prepare. Ensure you have waterproof clothing, including a jacket, pants, rain Poncho, and gloves.
How can I avoid altitude sickness?
As soon as people book their trip to Peru, specifically to Cusco, they start wondering about altitude sickness. Most of the time, these symptoms will be mild. We always recommend picking up activity slowly, allowing your body to adjust. Drink plenty of fluids like water or coca tea.
Coca-tea has been used since ancient times to help prevent altitude sickness. Avoid drinking a lot of alcohol and coffee. They will make you urinate more often, and you will become dehydrated. Avoid smoking. Smoking makes it harder for your body to get oxygen. Avoid sleeping pills. They can cause shallow breathing at night, making it difficult for your body to absorb oxygen while you sleep.
