Why You´ll love the 6 Day Machu Picchu Tour

This practical program covers quite a bit of ground every day. Some tourist days require a two to three-hour walk-in total.

The pace is moderate; however, you will encounter uneven surfaces, stairs, steps, and significant slopes. When visiting Machu Picchu, please note that trekking poles are not allowed in some areas of the archaeological site; carry them in your day backpack. Trekking poles at the Machu Picchu archaeological site require a medical prescription.

Also, selfie sticks are banned, and only foldable umbrellas are allowed. We get up early, at 5 or 6 am, to take a 6-Day Machu Picchu Tour. Cusco is 3350 meters – 11,000 feet above sea level and may be a consideration for those with heart problems or those affected by altitude. Before signing up for this excursion, we recommend you consult your doctor.

Some hotels in Ollantaytambo, Aguas Calientes, and Cusco build in the traditional local style without air conditioning; these hotels can get uncomfortable during heat waves, even at higher elevations.

Faqs 6 Day Machu Picchu Tour

Is it necessary to reserve the entrance to Machu Picchu?

It is not essential, but it is advisable. We bought it the day before in Aguas Calientes and had no problem, but it is not unreasonable that you arrive and there are no tickets for the next day.

Is reserving the entrance to Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain necessary?

Yes, absolutely, yes. When we asked at the ticket office, there were months on the waiting list.

Do I need a passport to enter Machu Picchu?

You must show your passport with your ticket to Machu Picchu. It is not enough to bring a copy.

Faqs About Cusco and Machu Piccu 6-Day Tour

Is it mandatory to hire a guide to visit Machu Picchu?

No. Have you read that it is? Me too, but it is not valid.

What is true is that it is recommended.

Can you visit Machu Picchu in one day without sleeping in Machu Picchu Pueblo?

It is possible. You can go on the first train and return on the last one or take the minivan back. But since you have come this far, spending a night and enjoying the visit more quietly would be advisable.

Travel Guide

How to get to Machu Picchu

After the discovery of the ancient Inca city, a village was built at the base of the hill to attract the many curious first and tourists later, attracted by this wonder. It is known as Aguas Calientes or Machu Picchu Pueblo. The bad thing is that it is not accessible by road, so the most comfortable is to use the train from Cusco or Ollantaytambo, but it is the most expensive way (calculate about 120 USD per person round trip).

There is an option to cheapen the transportation, but you must be prepared for a few hours of buses and shared cabs and then stick to an 11 km hike. This is the well-known route of the Hidroeléctrica.

How to get from Mach Picchu Pueblo to Machu Picchu

Some buses leave at 05:30 in the morning from Machu Picchu Pueblo and travel the winding road of 3 km to reach the entrance of Machu Picchu. It costs 12 USD each way, and you must buy the ticket at the ticket office with your passport (you cannot believe it on the bus).

If you want to walk up, the route passes through sections of this same road and shortcuts in the middle of the forest. The climb is not long, but it takes about 1 hour.

Schedules for Machu Picchu

  • Machu Picchu (Circuits 1 or 2) in one-hour intervals (from 6:00 to 14:00)
  • Machu Picchu (Circuit 4) + Huayna Picchu in group 1 (from 6:00 to 7:00 am)
  • Machu Picchu (Circuit 4) + Huayna Picchu in group 2 (from 8:00 to 9:00 am)
  • Machu Picchu (Circuit 4) + Huayna Picchu in group 3 (from 10:00 to 11:00 am)
  • Machu Picchu (Circuit 4) + Huayna Picchu in group 4 (from 12:00 to 13:00 am)
  • Machu Picchu (Circuit 3) + Mountain in group 1 (from 6:00 to 7:00 am)
  • Machu Picchu (Circuit 3) + Mountain in group 2 (from 8:00 to 9:00 am)
  • Machu Picchu (Circuit 4) + Huchuy Picchu in one-hour intervals (from 6:00 to 14:00)

The ascent to Huayna Picchu

If you could buy your ticket for Huayna Picchu and you listened to me and did it at 10, after the guided tour, you will have time to walk around the ruins and take the typical panoramic photos.

A little before 10 o’clock, head towards the entrance of Huayna Picchu on the opposite side of the entrance to Machu Picchu. There you will queue up a bit, show your ticket again, check-in, and you can climb to the top at 2,667 meters above sea level. It is a climb of another hour and a half, which is problematic because it has many steps. However, when you get to the top, you will enjoy a fantastic view of Machu Picchu and the surrounding mountains. You will be able to rest and take pictures.

Hot springs of Santa Teresa

You can find thermal medicinal waters in Santa Teresa just 10-minute drive from Santa Teresa (the name of the place is “thermal baths of Cocalmayo”), and any cab will take you there for three soles per person.

It costs only ten soles for foreigners (5 soles for Peruvians), and as soon as you get into one of its three vast and hot pools, you will feel in glory. The time will fly by, and with luck, you will see a beautiful starry sky and come out of there like new.
