Although there is not much distance in kilometers, the trip will take 1 hour and 15 minutes, with Cusipata as your first stop. How to Arrive with a Travel Agency?

Why is it colored?

At the request of the Pitumarca community, the Cultural Landscape Office of the Decentralized Directorate of Culture in Cusco prepared a study to gather technical information about these mountains and offer it to tourists.

The report revealed that the colors of the mountains are due to their mineralogical composition: the pink color is attributed to the presence of red clay, fangolites (mud), and argillites (sand). The whitish color is due to the white quartz sandstone. The brown, brown, and purple colors, formed by limonites and marls, are rich in calcium carbonate.

The red is due to the argillites (iron) and clays belonging to the upper Tertiary. The green is due to the compound of phyllites and clays rich in ferromagnesian minerals. The earthy brown color is due to the fanglomerate, composed of manganese-bearing rocks from the Quaternary era. And the mustard yellow color is due to the calcareous sandstones rich in sulfide minerals.

• From Cusipata to Phulawasipata (dirt road), it takes 20 km
• From Phulawasipata to Rainbow Mountain (via dirt road), it is 3 km.

Is there a restroom facility available at Rainbow Mountain, Peru?

Not an ideal situation, but very rustic toilets are available on the way. Bring a roll of toilet paper to be well prepared.

The entire system and circuit of the Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain are managed by the 20 indigenous communities that live and surround the tourist attraction, which is why there is a rustic bathroom service at the beginning of the adventure as well as in the middle of the entire excursion and about 20 minutes before reaching the top of Rainbow Mountain.
